Punters were left screaming during this ‘appalling incident’ at the Fontwell race.
Only one of the seven starters finished while THREE others fell at the final fence.
Luckily, all horses and jockeys were able to get up and were uninjured.
But Sky Sports Racing presenter Alex Hammond called the crash on the final flight a ‘terrible incident’.
Bryan Carver and his 14-1 horse Majestic Moment were the only horses remaining at the end of the 2m2f Grade 5 handicap chase over 13 fences.
There were four of them who all had a chance of winning going into the final turn after Yarborough was eliminated in the second game at 10-1 – and Mega Speculator at 18-1 and Across The Ocean at 300-1 were eliminated.
Grain Trade, the 4-6 favorite under King George winning jockey Gavin Sheehan, had a two-length lead and was in good form but fell behind in the final furlong.
And that caused a disastrous domino effect as Lord Maher (7-2) was knocked out and Valirann Gold (10-1) was knocked out by jockey Ben Godfrey.
Unfortunately, displays have been erected around Grain Trade.
But Sky Sports Racing cameras captured the moment he walked out normally with rider Sheehan following behind.
Hammond added: “All the horses and jockeys are fine, which is good news – oh, it looks like an unfortunate incident.”
As no other horse finished, Majestic Moment won the entire £6,000 prize pool.
However, the money is not important to the punters, they are just relieved that all the horses and jockeys are okay.
One person wrote: “Relieved to know they are okay, what a horrifying incident.”
Meanwhile, similar chaos occurred in Ludlow.
D’Jo Dela Barriere, the 11-4 outsider for trainer Evan Williams, was the only finisher of three in the Grade 3 handicap chase over three miles.
Paul Nicholls’s Histrionic was rated a 5-4 favorite by Lorcan Williams but dropped when Pike Road were beaten 13-8.
